Shin Mal

I built a small side project with AI: Shin Mal
Every group dinner ends the same way. The bill arrives and someone says “just split it equally.” But one friend doesn’t eat beef, two skipped the pork, and only two of us drank beer. Equal isn’t fair, and working it out on a calculator at the table takes forever.

There are already plenty of bill-splitting apps out there. I didn’t want to just make another one. I wanted one that anyone at the table can pick up and use in a minute: no account, no setup, no learning curve.

So I built shinmal.com with the help of AI. “Shin Mal” (ရှင်းမယ်) means “let’s settle the bill” in Burmese. AI helped me turn the idea into a working app much faster, so I could spend my time on what matters most: keeping it simple and friendly to use.

What it does:

  • Splits each item only between the people who had it (food, drinks, beer)
  • Applies tax by category, e.g. 8% on food and 10% on beer
  • Shares the result as one clean picture to the group chat
  • New: tracks who paid the restaurant and who still owes them, with their KPay, Wave Pay, PromptPay or VietQR code. The app never touches the money; friends pay in their own bank app.
No sign-up. Bills stay on your own phone.
Made for phones first, because that’s where bills get split.
It’s free, and I’d love your feedback. Try it on your next team dinner
